Excluded Events: Permanently Remove Unwanted Deadlines

Introduction

The Excluded Events feature in DocketCalendar allows you to remove specific events from being created during rules calculations and save your preferences as defaults. This feature streamlines your workflow by automatically unchecking events you don't want to create each time you calculate a trigger.

Benefits of Using Excluded Events

  • Speed up the review process during rules calculations
  • Customize event creation for each unique trigger in any court within your subscription
  • Apply changes to a single court or all similar courts (e.g., all federal bankruptcy courts or district courts)
  • Quickly set your entire rules subscription to your preferences

Important Notes

  • DocketCalendar provides deadlines for every court rule and includes deadlines for every type of matter before the court.
  • You can always re-check excluded events at calculation if you want to include them for a particular trigger.
  • Setting up these defaults will significantly speed up the review process during rules calculations.

How to Use Excluded Events

Accessing Excluded Events

  1. Click on 'Excluded Events' in the EVENTS section of the sidebar menu.

Adding Excluded Events

  1. From the Excluded Events page, click the Edit Exclude Events button.
  2. Select the jurisdiction that includes the events you wish to exclude from the jurisdiction dropdown list.
  3. Select the trigger in the jurisdiction that creates the events you want to exclude.
  4. Click the Preview Events button to view the list of events generated by that trigger.
  5. Select the events you wish to exclude by checking the applicable checkboxes.(Checking a box will make that event default to unchecked at calculation)
  6. Choose whether you want to apply the exclusions:
    • Only to the selected jurisdiction
    • To all related jurisdictions that contain the same trigger

Note: Use "Apply to All Jurisdictions" where several jurisdictions include the same trigger and related events. This is generally applicable where two or more jurisdictions employ the same procedural rules (e.g., federal bankruptcy courts or district courts).

  1. Click the Save Excluded Events button.

Restoring Excluded Events

You can restore excluded events so that they will once again show up during calculations. To restore excluded events:

  1. Follow the same steps as adding excluded events.
  2. Uncheck the events you want to restore.
  3. Click the Save Excluded Events button.

Conclusion

The Excluded Events feature in DocketCalendar allows you to:

  • Customize your event creation process
  • Improve efficiency by removing irrelevant deadlines
  • Tailor the system to your specific practice areas and needs

By effectively using this feature, you can streamline your workflow and ensure that you're only seeing the most relevant deadlines for your cases. Remember, you can always include excluded events on a case-by-case basis during calculations if needed.
